Watchung Reservation - Berkeley Heights, New Jersey

I feel that I am gaining more understanding of the different adjustments in Photoshop and becoming slightly more brave with adjusting colors. There were different goals for each of these pictures for which colors I was trying to highlight.

  1. The way to emphasize a particular color and not throw the rest of the image out of color balance is to use Image>Adjustment>Hue Saturation, (ctrl-U), then find the drop down and choose the color you want to be accentuated. Dial saturation to the right.

In the second from the bottom, the cyan color of the snow is incorrect. If using color balance, cyan is opposite of red. as you add more cyan, the red becomes muted and neutralized. The colors are opposite each other on the color wheel and they cancel each other out.

My favorite shot is the third one down from the top, of the stream. Desaturated color is a good thing here. Its main fault though is the "blown out" and textureless snow. It's important to not over expose or use levels to loose details in either highlights or shadows.
