Felicity, California is an unincorporated community in Southeastern California. It is not very far from Arizona. Through a unique set of circumstances, my brother and I took a visit to this place. This community holds a legal designation as "Center of the World." What does that mean? After a few explanations and some research, we are still not quite sure. Nonetheless, it is a very interesting place. It contains a courtyard with several rosetta stones detailing world history. There is a church on top of a hill and a pyramid which is said to be the "Center of the World."

Did you meet the Mayor? He is said to be very amiable... Here's what I found out about this place...
ReplyDeleteacques-Andre saw this barren wasteland while serving as a Marine in the Korean War. He fell in love with it, and, with money made from his successful parachute schools business, bought thousands of acres stretching from I-8 northward to the Chocolate Mountains. "I told my wife, 'I don't know what I'm going to do with this bare land, but it has to be entertaining'," he said. It wasn't until the 1980s that he finally found an idea that piqued his interest, one that has now left a permanent impression on the landscape.
So he built a tourist attraction out in the middle of nowhere... I would love to see it myself, in order to appreciate how remote Felicity must be....

We did meet the mayor and his wife and they were extremely warm and friendly. It is in a desert region but it is right off the highway with a lot other stuff near it. Very unique place.
